18×8 is the oversized double-car garage opening — wider than a standard 16-foot double and taller than a 7-foot opening. This size is most common on custom builds, RV-friendly garages, and homes with extra-deep garages designed to hold a vehicle plus storage or workshop space along the sides. With 144 sq ft of coverage, the 18×8 spans the entire opening with no middle support so you get the full unobstructed view and walk-through clearance.
At this width the screen uses a heavier-duty motor and a reinforced bottom bar to keep the longer span true and seal cleanly against the floor. If your opening is closer to 16 feet wide, choose the 16×7 or 16×8 instead — the 18×8 side tracks are explicitly sized for the wider span and the cassette housing is longer to fit the longer roll tube.
